Berlin-Westend is the westernmost, inner-city district of Berlin – the location between the Havel and City West makes Westend infinitely attractive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Theodor-Heuss-Platz and Reichsstra\u00dfe offer a wide range of shops and urban infrastructure. The district is predominantly characterised by well-kept period buildings, apartment blocks or villas with large gardens, parks and plenty of nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Berlin-Westend is part of the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Westend is considered one of the best residential areas in Berlin and is named after the London city area of “Westend”. During industrialisation, the prevailing westerly wind structured the major cities of Central Europe in that wealthy citizens settled predominantly in western districts, where the polluted air of the city’s factory chimneys rarely bothered them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neu-Westend is therefore characterised by beautiful villa buildings from the early 20th century, artists’ colonies and green oasis. With the expansion of the inner city, apartment buildings and urban development were added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Popular places and settlements in Berlin-Westend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The centre and also the shopping mile of Westend is Reichsstra\u00dfe, which runs between Theodor-Heuss-Platz and Steubenplatz. Reichsstra\u00dfe is lined with boutiques and good restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heerstra\u00dfe is the extension of Kaiserdamm and runs westwards out of the city through Westend. North of it is Pichelsberg with the Olympic Stadium and the popular open-air music venue Waldb\u00fchne. Sporting events are held there and in summer thousands of concert enthusiasts are attracted to open-air events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eichkamp housing development, an insider’s tip a few years ago, is located very much in the city centre and therefore has now achieved inner city price equinimity. It\u2019s close to the trade fair grounds and the AVUS (motorway to Potsdam), yet idyllically on the edge of the Grunewald forest. The charming terraced housing estate was built in the 1920s with significant involvement of the architects Max and Bruno Taut. The Heerstra\u00dfe estate is also located south of Heerstra\u00dfe and consists of terraced and semi-detached houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Corbusierhaus (also known as the “Wohnmaschine” = living machine) is a striking Berlin high-rise built by the eponymous architect Le Corbusier for the 1957 International Building Exhibition. Together with other large blocks of social housing, it is located on a green area between Heerstra\u00dfe and the Olympic Stadium. Today it is a listed building. The flats there offer a magnificent city panorama, especially on the upper floors, and are very popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In nearby Charlottenburg you will find many cultural institutions such as the Deutsche Oper (opera), the Renaissance Theatre and Charlottenburg Palace.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
